The KEHILA KEDOSHA JANIA SYNAGOGUE is both a synagogue and an operating museum.  It was built by Romaniote Jews from Jania, Greece in 1927.  The Greek Jewish community’s history dates back to Rome after the destruction of the Second Temple.  The Romaniotes were sent on a slave ship to Rome in the first century but due to a shipwreck ended up in Greece to which their unique branch of Judaism and two-thousand-year old customs and traditions date.  Their history is so obscure that many Jews are unaware of their existence.
